Djé Tavares has returned to Santa Clara with high spirits after making his debut for the Cape Verde national team. The 24-year-old midfielder received his first call-up and featured in both of the island nation's matches, against Mali and Rwanda.
His debut came in a 1-3 loss to Mali. The national team coach then selected Tavares for the starting lineup in the following match against Rwanda, which also ended in a 1-2 defeat. Despite the results, the international experience has left the player motivated. "Chamado a representar Cabo Verde pela primeira vez na carreira, o jogador de 24 anos participou nos dois jogos," said Djé Tavares.
His call-up meant he missed Santa Clara's pre-season training camp in the north of the country. The national team now prepares for its next fixture, a friendly at home against Liberia on November 11th.
Cape Verde approaches this match following a run of five games with a record of one win, three draws, and one defeat. The most recent result was a 2-3 loss to Argentina on July 3rd. To follow the team's progress, see the stats and squad pages.
