Sidny Cabral has become the highest-scoring defender in the history of the Cape Verde national team. The international scored his fifth goal for the Islands in a 3-1 defeat to Mali, a feat that places him in the country's all-time top ten scorers.

Cabral's other four goals came against Malaysia, Libya, Chile, and Argentina. With five goals, the Trabzonspor defender is Cape Verde's tenth-highest scorer ever, with every player above him being a forward. His strike against Argentina in the 3-2 loss on July 3rd was even voted the best goal of the last World Cup tournament.

Sidny Lopes Cabral, aged 26, currently plays for Trabzonspor in Turkey, where he has made eight appearances this season. He previously played for Benfica and Estrela da Amadora. Although yet to score for his club this campaign, the centre-back remains confident in his role. "The player believes he will be able to earn a place in the team and be important throughout the season," he said.

Cape Verde currently sits second in their World Cup qualifying group, with three points from three games. Bubista's team is now preparing for its next challenge, a friendly against Liberia at home on November 11th.

Sidny Cabral is expected to start in that match, continuing to be a key piece in defence and an offensive threat from set-pieces.
